Communication Through Touch - Christmas Songs

Here are three Christmas songs, which are great for young students. I have written them out to give ideas on how you to make them more interactive and engaging for your complex learners.

When Santa Got Stuck up the Chimney

If your your students don't mind wear Santa hats for this song

When Santa got stuck up the chimney he began to shout
You girls and boys won't get any toys

Slightly raise your voice as you sing this line of the song

If you don't pull me out

Gently pull on your students arms

My beard is black

Put both your hands on your student's cheeks  and gently rub down in a circular motion to the chin,as you are singing the words

"There's soot in my sackMy nose is tickling too!"

Wiggle your fingers in a tickling action on your learners nose

When santa got stuck up the chimneyA-choo, a-choo, a-choo!

Build this part of the song up to create anticipation (my students love this it really makes them giggle)

Repeat the words of the song with on body actions one more time

I'm a Little Snowman

This is a song from super simple learning follow the link below to see the video that goes with this song.

I’m a little snowman, look at me.
These are my buttons, 1 2 3.

As you are singing the words tap downwards with a flat palm three times on your students chest

These are my eyes and this is my nose.

As you are singing the words, touch your student beside there eyes, and then touch them on the nose.

I wear a hat and scarf. Brrr…it’s cold!

As you are singing the words cup both hands on the sides of your students head for hat, then bring them around your students neck together for scarf......As you are singing Brrr...it's cold, quickly rub up and down each of your student's arms

Repeat the words of the song with on body actions one more time

Shake your Jingle Bells

(Sung to the tune of wind the bobbin up)

This song can be used with your students at anytime of year, but its a really nice one for Christmas.
I discovered this song on a blog called Rhythm Express, click on the link below to view.

For this song give all your students a set of bells, hand held, or ones which strap around their wrist
(you could use lots of different sounding bells too).
If your student is unable to shake their bells support them to shake them in time as you sing the words of the song. The song gives you all the instructions of what to do with you Christmas bells.

Shake your jingle bells, shake your jingle bells

Shake, shake and shake some more

Shake your jingle bells, shake your jingle bells

Shake, shake and shake some more

Shake them to the ceiling, shake them to the floor

Shake them to the window, shake them to the door

Shake them loudly 1,2,3!

Then we shake them quietly.
