Lego Jelly Bricks - Sensory Play

Image
I am always looking for new sensory play ideas, I stumbled across jelly Lego cubes sometime ago on Pinterest and was racking my brains on how an earth you would make them. After talking with a friend I googled Lego jelly moulds and loads of different moulds came up.  These Lego jelly moulds are from Amazon, costing £2.95.  I don't think that you would be able to stack them, but if you are working with students who like to smell, eat and put everything into their mouths, this would be a very safe and tasty sensory play option, great for exploring and learning about colours too !.

Christmas is just around the corner so we are getting festive in the sensory room this week. For literacy we are reading 'Lollipop Land' a Christmas poem by 'Garnett Ann Shultz', which I found on the internet. To make the poem more meaningful for my learners, I am using different sensory props for each line of the poem. To start the poem I play the main title theme from the 'Home Alone' soundtrack, this is a very atmospheric and magical piece of music. I then support my students enjoy to put their feet in, and enjoy the warm massaging foot spa.  The peppermint sea is neath the beautiful shade of the bubble gum tree. To create the bubble gum tree I u...

Communication Through Touch - Christmas Songs

Here are three Christmas songs, which are great for young students. I have written them out to give ideas on how you to make them more interactive and engaging for your complex learners. When Santa Got Stuck up the Chimney If your your students don't mind wear Santa hats for this song When Santa got stuck up the chimney he began to shout You girls and boys won't get any toys Slightly raise your voice as you sing this line of the song If you don't pull me out Gently pull on your students arms My beard is black Put both your hands on your student's cheeks  and gently rub down in a circular motion to the chin,as you are singing the words "There's soot in my sack My nose is tickling too!" Wiggle your fingers in a tickling action on your learners nose When santa got stuck up the chimney A-choo, a-choo, a-choo! Build this part of the song up to create anticipation (my students love this it really makes them giggle) ...
